Recycling

REC is a member of PV Cycle, the photovoltaic industry’s voluntary take back and recycling programme for end-of-life-modules.

REC is a full member of the PV Cycle, using this common platform to work towards finding a cost efficient and environmentally friendly system for the collection and recycling of PV modules at the end of their lifetime.

REC is also represented at the Board of PV Cycle by the VP Corporate Social Responsibility in REC, Ms. Mette Vågnes Eriksen.

As PV CYCLE now intends to enter an operational stage and as the EU institutions are to develop frameworks for PV waste, the following years will be important for the success of PV CYCLE.

In REC's opinion, the following key principles will help the PV industry:

  • Cost-efficiency; where financial obligations and legal liabilities are minimized and kept with the companies
  • Showing by doing; where PV CYCLE builds stepwise success in practice to reduce risks and adjust to lessons learned
  • Fair payment; where safe and sustainable products with low waste risks are provided incentives
  • Long term viability; where PV CYCLE can operate within a future WEEE directive
